Copper sinks are certainly a beautiful addition to your kitchen because of its durabiliy and uniqueness. It is made from soft metal which is very versatile, and is a great material for sinks. Copper sinks are coated with a patina that protects its surface, keeping its beauty. But how can one  make sure that their attractive sink is properly cleaned and maintained? Generally, copper sinks should be cleaned with a mild dish liquid and a sponge. Make sure that you rinse it well and wipe it clean and dry with a lint-free cloth. Avoid using harsh cleansers because it may cause scratches and cause the patina to be removed. Below are some tips on how you should clean your copper sink to make sure that its beauty is kept well:

Avoid Using Stainless Steel Pads

Never clean your copper sink with metal scrub pads. Even if your sink gets really dirty, don’t resort to using such pads. You should also refrain from using steel wool. This is because these types of sponges are rough, and it can severely scratch your copper sink.

Don’t Let Dishes Sit Too Long On Your Sink

Leaving dirty dishes and letting them sit for hours or overnight on your sink can cause damages. This is because copper sinks aren’t resistant to stains. Leaving dirty dishes in your sink can stain or spot them if water or any other chemicals are left on its surface for long periods. Make sure you wash your dishes immediately, and you can get a sponge holder or caddy where you can keep your sponges and brushes. Make sure you also wipe your sink with a clean cloth after using it.

Be Wary of Cleaning Solutions

In the event that you use bleach for cleaning, or when you need to remove a clog with a cleaner, make sure that these type of cleaning agents don’t come in contact with your copper sink. This is because they can affect your sink’s finishing, and it can have a drastic affect on its overall look. This also goes to other things such as purpose-cleaners, because it can contain chemicals that can cause stains or discoloration on your copper sink. Although you can use them on your counters, make sure they don’t make contact with the edges of your sink.

Wash Your Sink Regularly

One of the best things you can do to keep your sink looking clean and new is to wash it regularly. This will delay its aging. You can wash them routinely using a small amount of mild dishwashing liquid and water. If there are stains that are hard to remove, you can use baking soda and water. After washing your dirty dishes, try to make it a habit of cleaning your sink after as well. Doing this will help a lot in keeping your copper sink well-maintained. Make sure you also have a dry cloth near your sink, because moisture can change the color and consistency of copper sinks. Wipe the sink dry with a cloth after using it to refrain stains from forming.

Use Wax or Copper Cleaner
